A CALL TO HACK
Mission of the Hackathon
VHacks seeks to use technological innovation to overcome social barriers and embrace common values. Our mission is threefold:
  • Encourage young people around the world to use technology and innovation to address local social, environmental and economic issues.
  • Promote collaboration among youth leaders across diverse academic, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
  • Leverage technology to address current global problems centered on hackathon themes.

OUR PARTICIPANTS
VHacks participants will be the world's brightest students with diverse academic, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Participants will be selected through a combination of partner universities providing teams and an open application where any student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program is eligible to apply. Participants are chosen based on academic accomplishments, innovative thinking, and alignment with our mission statement.

HACKATHON THEMES

VHacks is a 36-hour collaborative event taking place late August 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will address global problems, emphasizing three themes:

Social Inclusion

Mobilize methods of conservation and rehabilitation for "our common home" as according to Pope Francis' first encyclical.

Environment

Interfaith Dialogue

Public Health

Strengthen resources and systems to increase prevention and treatment of widespread diseases that affect populations.

Migrants & Refugees

Promote and encourage access to quality education in order to empower members of society with the skills needed to stimulate innovation in their communities.
